Here’s what we will be working on in Science…
We are continuing our force and motion unit. We have been observing and recording how objects move, roll, slide, push, and pull. We will be using the Ozobots (tiny robots that we will use simple coding to get to move) for a directions lesson and ending the week with a group STEAM lesson building structures to see how strong we can make them! Can they withstand the force or our blow dryer?!
Here’s what we will be doing in Reading and Writing…
We are continuing to read non fiction books and point out their text features. We will read and write to learn and teach about the First Thanksgiving! We will learn about why authors write stories and find the main idea in Thanksgiving stories. We will start a chart focusing on what we already know about Thanksgiving and move into what we want to learn, and eventually complete an exciting new information section. We will discuss and record facts about the first Thanksgiving and turn our final copy into a non fiction book! The students love becoming authors.
Here’s what we what we will be doing in Social studies…
We are moving into our Customs and Traditions around the world unit! We will present some of our Heritage dolls on Friday, and talk more about how our families celebrate certain holidays. We are focusing on Independence Day, San Jacinto Day and Veterans day this week.
Here’s what we will be doing in Math…
We are continuing learning about subtraction. In first grade, we work on the subtraction symbol, writing related subtraction sentences, and problem solving with related subtraction sentences. We will zoom in on problem solving towards the end of the week and make sure we are reading the problem correctly to identify the correct way to solve.
