This week's Homework:
Today, I am sending a homework sheet in your child's daily folder. This homework is titled "My Family's Native Country and Celebrations". It is a graphic organizer to help us learn about the customs and traditions important to our families and our family's heritage. Help your child find out more about traditional foods eaten during your celebration, language spoken, and more... Please assist your child in answering the questions but have them write with their own handwriting. My expectations are, neat and beautiful writing to their abilities. This homework is due by Tuesday, January 8th. If you complete this project this week, please send it in. The children will present their work to the class and talk about their celebrations during this week and the week after the holiday break. No other homework is assigned this week but IXL ( Areas of focus: subtraction and addition facts, graphs, and problem solving) is a great way to continue to practice math skills this week and over the holiday break. Keep reading as well and encourage students to think about the story as they read. RAZkids may be unavailable for a time, while accounts are reorganized to meet the needs of the campus. If you are not able to access your account this is why. I will update you as soon as I am able.
We have a busy and short week ahead of us. We will work on some fun winter projects, finish up and bring a conclusion to our PBL project, meet with our fourth grade buddies to work on a graphing project, and enjoy listening to the Gingerbread Man and other folktales.

FIRST GRADE PBL (Project Based learning) PROJECT:
Our PBL project has been a huge success so far! Our first graders did a great job making posters and advertisements and using other forms of media such as TV broadcast to inform the public about a real life problem. So far, we have been able to collect over 200 books and we're hoping to collect and add more to our Book Drive bar graph this week. Once all books are collected, teachers will deliver the books to Palm Elementary and record an interview with the teachers affected by the floods. These books will be used by students and teachers that lost many of their books during the flood. What a great difference our first graders have been able to make!
THANK YOU!
