This week:
READING
This week we will work on some strategies that could help us be stronger readers. Readers read from from left to right and from top to the bottom, even if the prints on the page are not on a straight line or printed in an unusual way (inside thinking bubbles, or on broken lines- The author Mo Willems has a lot of books like this). When readers get stuck on a word, they don't just skip the word and keep reading. Instead, they try to sound out the word and see if it makes sense. Great readers also use the picture clues to help them figure out a word they don't know.
WRITING
We have written many true stories about our lives. This week we will revise our stories. When we revise, we look at our stories to check and see if our stories make sense. Sometimes we need to add more to our stories and sometimes we need to delete a part. We will read our sentences to make sure they make sense. We will also check for capitals at the beginning of sentences and correct punctuation at the end of sentences. We will continue to practice our sight words and spell them correctly.
MATH
We have been practicing on how to use the number line/number track to find specific numbers and find more or less. This week, we will take that knowledge and apply it to addition. The strategies that we work on is "Count On Addition Strategies for Basic Facts". It is essential that all students are able to successfully calculate both mentally and with paper and pencil their basic facts. Count On strategies include Count on 0 (+0 facts Count), On 1 (+1 facts), Count on 2 (+2 facts). We will learn that we can apply a count on strategy to solve many addition problems. Start with the highest number and count on!
SCIENCE
This week we will be continuing our discussion on physical changes to materials. We learned this past week, that adding heat and removing heat cause materials to change. We will be doing more experiments this week to observe those changes first hand!
THANK YOU!
