SPRING PBL PROJECT
This week we will wrap up our PBL project. We have learned so much about the benefits of a garden. We have learned that food could be free if every person in the community took part in growing a small garden. http://foodisfreeproject.org/ We have learned about different parts of plants and how we eat different parts such as roots, stems, leaves, or fruits. We have learned about the life cycle of plants and the need of plants. We are designing our classroom “gardens” and planting this week. Some of us have chosen plants that will need to be transferred to larger containers or a home garden. Some of us have chosen plants that should grow in small containers to keep in our homes and apartments. Our class has learned that each plant requires its own special amount of space, sun, soil and water. We have researched and learned about basil, parsley, lettuce, broccoli and peppers. I am not known for my green thumb or my cooking but I am hopeful to send out a picture this summer of my homegrown basil leaves on my homemade pizza! Even if my basil does not grow, I have learned more about plants. We are all very excited about our mini gardens!
READING and WRITING
We will continue reading fiction and non-fiction stories and review comprehension strategies that we have been working on this year. In writing, we will work on our PBL folders which is a collection of our research and findings about plants and vegetable gardens.
MATH
This week we will work on solving word problems with objects and pictorial models that involve joining, separating, and comparing sets and represent those problems with number sentences. We will solve problems when the unknown as any term in the problem (the sum, the difference, or the unknown part in part-part-whole).
SCIENCE
As part of our PBL project we will research the needs of basil, parsley, lettuce, broccoli, and peppers.
THANK YOU!
