We are talking about the responsibilities of being a 2nd grader. Over the next four months the expectations in first grade will increase. Students are working on becoming more independent academically and socially. We can be problem solvers!
As readers we are doing a great job recognizing words and "reading" first grade appropriate books and beyond. Don't forget to have students retell the story. For fiction this is starting at the beginning and telling all the important details to get to the middle and then the end. For nonfiction this is telling all the important facts and information the author communicates to us. (The first prompt from our reading assessment asks about what information was "learned". Encourage students to talk about all information even if it is not new information to the student.)
